Black Out Loud: Spotlight on Greg Williams

Peace beBaton Rouge Family,

My name is Donney Rose and I am a Baton Rouge native, poet, educator and director of the inaugural Black Out Loud Conference, coming to the 225 this August (10-12). I am ecstatic about being able to share info about Black Out Loud through beBatonRouge. Over the next few weeks, I will be profiling some amazing Black Baton Rougeans who embody what it means to live “Black Out Loud”. Our first profile features the dynamic Artistic Director and Founder of New Venture Theater, Greg Williams

Who: Greg Williams
Age: 35
Hometown: Baton Rouge
Occupation: Artistic Director/Founder at New Venture Theater

Greg Williams believes that Black voices, rhythms and culture are a huge component of American mainstream culture and should have wide representation in the telling of the American story. As Artistic Director/Founder of an African American based theater company, New Venture Theater (NVT), Greg takes great pride in NVT’s ability to provide a platform to tell stories of Black Americans via the stage. He lives “out loud” in his identity by producing quality and transformative theater that seeks to enlighten, educate and inspire its audiences. New Venture shows has housed audiences of thousands in the Baton Rouge area for the better part of a decade. From original stageplays to adaptations of classic films such as “The Color Purple” and “The Wiz”, NVT is a staple in the theater community of Baton Rouge and has served as a vessel for many Black Baton Rougeans to witness theatrical productions where their representation was foregrounded.

Thank you Greg Williams for being BLACK OUT LOUD
