Suffering from Acne Scars? Here’s A Solution!

Being a woman of color comes with its perks. The magic, the melanin, and the effortless style. However, that extra dose of melanin can have its downsides like hyperpigmentation. Our melanin causes us to be more prone to developing deep, dark acne scars.

Most of my life I have struggled with hyperpigmentation. Some of it came from pimples on my face that didn’t want to go out without a fight. Others were from rubbing my nose from struggling during allergy season. No matter where they came from, I couldn’t seem to get rid of it!

So, I tried everything. The first attempt was the tried and true black girl staple, cocoa butter. I slathered it on every night and saw some improvement but nothing to write home about. Then I tried creams with bleaching agents. I barely saw improvement and my skin was always extra dry and splotchy. It seemed that I was doomed to have these scars forever.

Then, while perusing Instagram, I read a caption by Nazanin Mandi. If you aren’t familiar, she’s Miguel’s gorgeous queen, who is a model/singer/actress in her own right. Naz praised her staple beauty product, rosehip oil. After doing some research, I found that this product had a host of benefits that I wanted.

First, you can use rosehip oil for dandruff to calm an itchy, dry scalp. It also can aid in the repair of damaged hair follicles. For my natural girls, I love using rosehip oil to seal in moisture after my leave-in conditioner. It helps your hair have the shine and keeps those curls popping!

Next and most importantly, rosehip oil helps reduce and lighten scars over time. I started the regimen of applying rosehip oil to my face after I cleaned my skin at night. During the night the oil would absorb into my face and I would wake up with refreshed and moisturized skin. It completely obliterated those acne scars, under-eye circles, and evened out my skin tone. I was so amazed that after years of searching, I had finally found something that worked! This scar lightening action comes from the vitamins and omega 3,6,9 fatty acids. These nutrients help rebuild collagen and fade hyperpigmentation. They have even been helpful in getting rid of stretch marks during my pregnancy!

Lastly, you can use rosehip oil to make your skin look more youthful. Rosehip oil contains anti-inflammatory fatty acids and vitamins A and C that help wrinkles. It hydrates skin and fights against free radicals that cause damage to the skin. It also can help your skin regain elasticity and keep your skin nice and firm.

So, are you sold? Will you try some rosehip oil to help your skin and scalp?
