Councilwoman Erika L. Green of District 5 has recently announced that there are two reasons to celebrate this week. We’re always grateful for a reason to party but it’s even better when there’s a purpose behind it. The event “Two Reasons To Celebrate” is first, celebrating that IWE Fest season is officially here! If you don’t know what IWE Festival is, it’s a festival to celebrate and encourage literacy. In the past, beBATONROUGE has partnered with the festival to create a series, “Literary Gems with Councilwoman Erika L. Green,” you can watch, here.
The festival has been occurring each summer for the past 2 years, you can learn more about the festival and look at past photos, on beBATONROUGE’s IWE Festival page.
The second reason to celebrate is because Councilwoman Green’s other initiative, Imagination Leads, is celebrating its one year anniversary. Imagination Leads is an organization with the mission “to promote culturally diverse experiences in literacy and arts; and to provide leadership development programs for young black women.” They do this by providing Youth Literacy Engagement Sessions, or YLEs, in the community. Imagination Leads also interacts with children by taking them on “field trips”with educational and cultural value.
Join beBATONROUGE and Councilwoman Erika L. Green on March 29th to celebrate the existence of these two amazing programs at the Old Bogan Fire Station on 427 Laurel Street. It’s the first official event of IWE Festival season! Sounds will be curated by DJ Marquis and libations will be provided by Squeak Ent. RSVP below to join in on the party, we’ll see you there!
