8 Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season

Tis the season to give back. We encourage you to give out of the kindness of your heart, without expecting anything in return. Spread joy and holiday cheer to those you love and strangers that may not be as fortunate throughout the year. Here are a few ways to give back. These are suggestions and we’d love for you to participate but don’t feel compelled. Get creative and create your own efforts too!

Mix Mingle & Jingle

Mix Mingle & Jingle is power networking for a cause. They will be accepting NEW toys for children in need, which will be donated to It Takes a Village for the holiday season. This will be a great night of connecting, celebrating, and collaborating to serve those in need. Charles R. Kelly Community Center Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots collaboration with councilwoman, Erika L. Green, Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the Charles R. Kelly Community Center. Toys are distributed to those who have filled out an application and have been contacted. Although the application period has ended, new and gently used toys and bikes are still needed for all ages (infant – 18 years old). Donations will be accepted until 7 pm on December 8 at 3535 Riley Street. The event will take place Sunday from 3-5pm at the community center.

Sylvia Weatherspoon’s Toy Drive

This year marks the third year of WBRZ News anchor Sylvia Weatherspoon’s annual toy drive. Sylvia’s Toys for Christmas serves those in Baton Rouge, Zachary and Central. “I was inspired by so many of the wonderful people I feature every Friday night in my 2 Make A Difference segment,” explains Weatherspoon of the special, which airs during the 10 p.m. news. “People in all age groups, from all walks of life who see a need and do something to help.” Continue reading about Sylvia’s toy drive or Click here to donate or learn more! 

Warm the Sole Sock Drive

Socks are the most requested item at homeless shelters. Last year, Keisha Clark was able to donate 1235 pairs of socks to St. Vincent de Paul. Keisha started the sock drive with a big desire to give back. “I want to give back but I don’t have the money to donate so I’m always looking for ways to give back that don’t cost much or just require time. I chose socks because it doesn’t cost people much to give and everyone needs socks.” – Keisha Clark  Help to reach the goal of 1500 pairs set for this year. 3rd Project 70805  Holiday Toy Giveaway

Join Project 70805 in spreading holiday joy on December 16 at 9 AM for the 3rd Annual “Holiday Toy Giveaway” supporting families in North Baton Rouge! The event is in conjunction with Capital City Collision, Aetna and Hughes Consultant Group. Project 70805 is currently accepting volunteers for Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Santa’s Sleigh Drive

This Christmas, help Live Fast TV and DeauxBoyz BR  extend a helping hand. From now through December 20, donate a toy (new or gently used). Families will come out and select the toys they desire. Drop off locations is at Rich Kutz Barber Shop (9450 Airline Hwy) and UPS in Gonzales (1008 W Raymond).

ITAV BR’s Annual Onesie Party Family Edition/ ITAV BR Onesie Party Bando Edition

1 – The first ever family edition of It Takes A Village BR’s annual onesie party will be December 21. Quarters will be offering discounted bowling, laser tag, and arcade packages to guests who donate new, packaged toys.
2 – Keeping in the spirit, on December 22 is the return of the It Takes A Village BR onesie party – Bando edition 9 pm at Spanish Moon. Must be 18 years or older to enter. Partygoers receive discounted admission by wearing a onesie and donating winter gear. Heads up, Thursday, December 7 – Saturday, December 9, Dirt Cheap has select coats $8 for adults and $4 for kids. Most sweaters are $5 or less.
