The Conversation: Self-Care in a Relentless News Cycle

What is self-care? What is the difference between mental health and mental illness? What are the benefits of being “woke”?
Baton Rouge native, Dr. Charlayne (Hayling-Williams) sat down in Washington, DC with the National Urban League director of communications and external affairs (Kim Atterbury) to have a critical conversation titled:  Self-Care in a Relentless News Cycle to answer these all important questions, and much more.  The topic of overall wellness is of particular importance in the current context of 45, and all of the uncertainty black Americans and other oppressed groups are experiencing. This conversation builds upon the wise words of Audre Lorde, “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”  In the spirit of “political warfare,” Dr. Charlayne encouraged listeners to Insist – on being well and living on purpose; Resist anything that challenges your peace and mental health; and Persist in the pursuit of ultimate happiness and service to others.  Check out this inspiring and enlightening discussion and STAY WOKE!
