As our beloved Southern University celebrates 138 years of academic excellence, I am honored to serve as the Grand Marshall of this year’s Homecoming Parade. As a native son of Baton Rouge, I am deeply rooted in the legacy of The Southern University and its contributions to not only my own family, but the great state of Louisiana, our country and beyond.
Southern University has always been a key part of my “village” and the nurturing I received on the bluff has taken me to sights far beyond my dreams. One of my fondest memories is sitting on my father’s shoulders watching the homecoming parade pass through the Scotlandville community. Life has a way of coming full circle because my parents also met at Southern University. I am humbled to lead this parade and looking forward to celebrating with the Jaguar Nation.
From tailgating, to the homecoming game against Alcorn, the Bluff will be filled with Jaguar excitement. There is even the 10th Annual Art Exhibit in the Visual Art Gallery in Frank Hayden Hall that will be open to the public until October 11th. This is a great time for the community to explore the campus and patronize Southern University’s rich history.
While enjoying this weekend’s homecoming festivities, I also encourage my fellow Jaguars to take in the new SU. With exciting changes on the horizon, it is key that we get and stay involved both civically and financially to ensure Southern University celebrates 138 more!
O Southern, Dear Southern, I Owe My All To Thee!!!
