A Lil Gumbo For Your Soul: Finding Your Balance

In a world that is constantly buzzing “ go…go…go”, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. To stay sane, you always have to make sure your soul vibes are on ?. Fact: we are constantly striving to do more and live our best lives! But in the midst of that plight to SUCCESS, we can lose ourselves and fall victim to the doomed unbalanced spiral.

“ We tell ourselves that It’ll be worth it when we get there, and we grind and crank and endure our way to the goal posts. We man up, suck it up, and shut up—all in the name of making a better life for ourselves. We fake it so we can be somebody,” says Danielle LaPorte. “ … far too often, epidemically often, we go for the external win at the cost of our internal wellness. And that’s because we don’t value our inner attunement as much as we value outer attainment.”

Inner Attunement

Inner attunement is like a bomb gumbo for your soul. It is full of flavor, warming to your insides and you soul vibes when it craves a flavorful bowl, most importantly, no one’s is exactly the same.

Only you can define what balance is for you. I️t feels like you have a handle on the the internal and external elements in YOUR life and don’t feel that your heart or mind are being pulled too hard in any direction. Your own version of peace.

It’s important to note that internal (mind, heart and health) and external  (family,work, social,  fun) balance can be positive no matter which way life flows but your desires are what ultimately determine what balance looks like for you.

For example, some people live with family as a high priority where others may be focused financially and professionally. Both sides of the spectrum can be deemed as “at peace” and successful but we tend to go wrong when we compare to what others are doing or focus solely on external achievements.

Internal wellness will always vibrate outwardly allowing us to organically achieve what the world has trained us to see as “peace and happiness”.

There are a few key areas that I️ found that channeled my inner attunement aka peace for me that has lead my life to be open for ” the wins”.

Mindful Meditation

Meditation is definitely a trend among “doers” of the world but today we are looking at it from a holistic standpoint of calming your soul and focusing your mind. Essentially keeping a balance when everything around you seems to be out of wack.

This isn’t about poses and chanting. Don’t sit and think because someone told you that’s the “secret”. Start by sitting with clarity in mind to purge the madness of what’s happening around you and channel what feels great to you.

The first few times you try to meditate on your own, you will feel unsuccessful, but keep doing it.

  • Sit in a quiet and still place. Most people think of sitting indian style with your thumb and index fingers touching but honestly, simply sitting upright works.
  • Be sure to sit up right, whether that is in a chair or on the floor.
  • Focus on your breath. This helps when your mind wanders.
  • Start small with 10 – 15 minutes a day.

Resilient Thinking

Being resilient starts with being flexible in your thinking. Just at the world turns, it changes. As adults we all know that ” Sh*t happens”. When you look at perspective vs situation, you will find yourself creating good luck out of circumstances that many others see as bad. That is resilience.

Psychologist state that some people seem to be born with more resilience than others, but they also assert that it’s possible for all of us to cultivate that mindset.
Start my pumping up the positivity through mindful meditation. As you master breathing, you can start to focus on other inward thoughts like ” what success feels like”. Remember feels vs. look like.
The positive thoughts married moving with what feels good will lead you in a direction that is unstoppable because circumstance can never take away how you feel. Only you control that.
Thinking patterns trigger our emotions. It will allow you to “feel the feels” but move past it and find a silver lining. Allow the negative to sit side by side with positive. During a mindful meditation, think about what bothers you but focus on the way to get back to the positive and build on that.

Ask yourself what does a great day look like for you? Focus on that… keep the thoughts flowing on “ a great day”.  Reality will start to kick in, telling you great days aren’t realistic. Block those thoughts by reminding yourself at this moment, anything goes. You can deal with reality by saying ” This huge desire isn’t realistic but these small goals along the way are and in time they will ultimately lead to achievement of the bigger desire.”

Our “survivor” brains are wired to pay more attention to negative. Change that by noticing, appreciating and celebrating the positive experiences whenever and wherever they occur.
It all starts with a soulful wish to shift your mind. Listen to your own vibes, reflect and remember your mind must land in a destination before your life will.
