Clothing lines have become increasingly popular in southeast Louisiana. Today I will be introducing you to one of the more popular ones. Originating in New Orleans, LA, ‘La Paradise Authentique,’ better known as ‘Paradise,’ was launched September 1st, 2017 as an independent clothing line owned by current Southern University fashion major, Eric Jones.
“‘La’ means ‘the’ in french, but it also stands for Louisiana (LA). It means ‘The authentic fashion of Paradise; paradise being in Louisiana.”
“It took me a year coming up with the name La Paradise Authentique” Jones said. “ The ‘La’ means ‘the’ in french, but it also stands for Louisiana (LA). It means ‘The authentic fashion of Paradise; paradise being in Louisiana.”
Paradise is Jones’ second time around owning a clothing line; he originally was in a partnership in High School, and into his freshman year of college, with a line called ‘Minati fashion.’ It was a promising endeavor, but ultimately fell short because of the lack of knowledge, resources, and marketing scheme.
“You’ve never seen Jordan change from the ‘Jumpman’ no matter what.”
“Being co-owner of Minati really taught me a lot when it comes down to this fashion business.” Jones said “We had success in High School, but our setup wasn’t right. (The) main problem being there were too many variations of our logo which I think ultimately hurt our brand. You’ve never seen Jordan change from the Jumpman no matter what.”
‘La Paradise Authentique’ has a branch off, ‘La Official Para,’ which is more urban attire as opposed to ‘Paradise Authentique’ which will feature more high fashion pieces. ‘Official Para’ has already released its Fall & Winter 17’ collections which featured short and long sleeve t-shirts, hoodies, plaid caps, and beanies. Selling out each time within the first week of his release, its safe to say Paradise certainly has traction to be on the right path ahead of his upcoming Spring 18’ release on March 20th. In addition to shirts and jackets Paradise will be premiering shorts, jeans, socks and shoe strings this time around with hopes of expanding its selection with each release.
“I know I’m nice, people do too, but now they’ll get to see everything.”
“I can’t wait to show people what I have coming out next, and this is only ‘Official Para’ gear,” said Jones. “This spring collection is my best work yet and when I finally release ‘La Paradise Authentique later this year, people will finally get to see how good I am with this fashion stuff.” I know I’m nice, people do too, but now they’ll get to see everything.”
Trying to defy the odds, ‘Paradise’ is trying to make it out of Louisiana and become a ‘designer’ brand people recognize such as ‘Polo,’ ‘Lacoste,’ and ‘Hilfiger.’ It would be uncommon to say the least, being no huge designers are based in Louisiana; most not even being in the United States for that matter. Jones is looking to complete his Fashion Merchandising degree in 2018, and is hoping that it will help open more opportunity for ‘Paradise’ to expand and grow beyond its region. Jones looks to move ‘Paradise’ once his degree is completed to either New York or London, England; two places that have proven to be critical to success in the fashion industry.
