beCULTURED Summer Travel Hacks: Build Your Roadtrip by Lauren Fisher 1 year ago 0 Comments Summer is finally here which means it’s time to take a trip. This year my parents put me in charge of planning a family trip. The only thing is, it has to be a road trip. The good thing about living in Baton Rouge is that there are several destinations within driving distance (no more than 8 hours) that you can sneak off to with your family, friends, or solo. Let’s pack up and hit the road. Looking for cities that’s rich in history with culture and nightlife and brunch??? Check out Houston, Memphis, San Antonio, or Atlanta. All three of these destinations are no more than 8 hours driving distance and are perfect for getaways. San Antonio is a good 6.5 hours but given the construction on I-10 W I’ll give it 7-7.5 hours. Be sure to stop at Billy’s for some boudin and/or Buc-ee’s to use the nicest bathrooms ever. Things to do: Houston Space Center Houston State Fare Restaurant The Breakfast Klub (Try the Catfish and Grits) Downtown Aquarium Hines Waterwall Park San Antonio La Fonda on Main Pearl District The Riverwalk Ranger Creek Brewing and Distillery Natural Bridge Caverns Memphis National Civil Rights Museum – Lorraine Hotel Beale Street Graceland Memphis Zoo The Rendezvous Atlanta Piedmont Park World of Coke Old Lady Gang Restaurant Midtown Fox Theater Looking to escape to some beaches? Hit up Galveston, Orange Beach, or The Florida Panhandle (Destin, Ft. Walton Beach, Pensacola, Panama City Beach) It’s nothing like sitting on a beach towel looking into the ocean (or in this case, the gulf). Pull out those nice swimsuits, grab the sunscreen, shades, and a book and let’s take it to the beach! Things to do: Galveston Seawall Urban Park Schlitterbahn The Spot 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA Bishop’s Palace Orange Beach Wharf Ferris Wheel Indian Sea Museum The Wharf Fisher’s at Ocean Beach Hugh Branyon Backtrail Florida Panhandle Henderson Beach State Park (Destin) Dewey Destin’s Restaurant Club La Vela (Panama City Beach) Pineapple Willy’s (Panama City Beach) Gulfarium Marine (Fort Walton Beach) Looking for a quick trip? Only have time for a 1 day trip? Check out the fan favorite New Orleans or Natchez, MS. Things to do: New Orleans Frenchmen Street Garden District Deanie’s Seafood Café du Monde National WWII Museum Natchez Natchez National Park Natchez Trace Emerald Mound Pig Out Inn (BBQ) Stanton Hall Thinking about a staycation? Check out our great city of Baton Rouge. How many of us can truly say we know about our own community? Since I travel so much for work, I always get asked what’s there to do in my city? I couldn’t answer that question until last summer when I left my Zachary home (and laptop) with my camera and duffel bag and checked into the Hilton Capital Center. Things to do: USS Kidd Old State Capital Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar LSU/SU Magnolia Mound I hope I inspired y’all to consider hitting the road this summer and #TravelLocal Best, Leaux TAGS :lauren fisher roadtrip roadtrips theleauxdown travel Share This Articles Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
